Christmas Eve

As Christmas Eve approaches, time seems to stand still, no longer are we under the pressure to shop until we drop and finish an endless list of things we must do. There is a peace and quiet in the air and at the same time, lots of excited children!

Then the children go to bed and the adults can bask in the quiet and serenity that only Christmas Eve holds, sitting quietly on the couch, with only the lights of the Christmas tree.  Everything feels different-peace, love and joy abound.  And there is hope and love and the promise of tomorrow-Christmas.

Yet on that first Christmas, when Jesus was born, the shepherds and the wise men didn’t sit and bask in the quiet.  They did not sit still and wait. They got up and ran.  In the Christmas carol, What Child Is This? the words say, “Haste, haste, to bring Him laud, the babe, the son of Mary.”

On Christmas morning, look around and see with new eyes all you are blessed with.  Whether we have a lot or a little, it doesn’t matter. We don’t need gifts, we have all we need.  We are blessed, we have the promise of eternal life and we are loved.  Now haste, haste, thank God.

And moms, I wish you and your families a very merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.

Blessings, Leigh

  1. Blessings indeed! We often overlook all that God has given us. I watched a movie last night where a mom told her daughter that she was going to church for 2 reasons: 1) because she (the mom) said so… and 2) because if she didn’t want to thank God for her blessings, she could give them back, starting with her cell phone. What would happen if we had to start giving our blessings back? I’m guessing that we’d be much more thankful for them!

Blessings, things we take for granted until they are taken away……..and then we are thankful for what truly matters like family and friends, and health. So what movie was it?
